Simplify Life

I liked this one:

As you simplify your life,
the laws of the universe will be simpler;
solitude will not be solitude,
poverty will not be poverty,
nor weakness weakness.

Naam Japa

Chanting the Divine Name

Hindu scriptures recommend chanting the divine name as a sure and easy means to realize God. One may chant the same name repeatedly; or, chant the list of thousand names (sahasranaams of Vishnu or any other deity).

However, Judaism regards pronouncing the name of God as a sin. Even writing the name of God, or even the word ‘God’ is a sin. A Jew writer would mention God as G_d or G_ _ to avoid committing the sin.

In Christianity, there are no alternative names for God. Christians never chant the name of God. They pray God.

According to Buddhism, there is no God; Buddha was not God, nor an incarnation of God, nor a messiah sent by God. So in Buddhism the question of chanting the names of God does not arise.

In my opinion, chanting the divine names is a useless activity. A person may be chanting Vishnusahasranaam, but while chanting those thousand names his mind may be elsewhere. Instead one should regularly pray God, not to ask for favors, but urging God to give him desire to speak the truth, compassion to help the needy, strength to support the weak and courage to fight injustice. Such a prayer said regularly may have a psychological impact on the mind of the person, even if he does not believe in God.

Globalization

INTERNATIONAL THINKING AT ITS BEST!

Question: What is the truest definition of Globalization?

Answer: Princess Diana's death.

Question: How come?

Answer: An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend
crashes in a French tunnel, driving a German car with
a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on
Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you change
the spelling) followed closely by Italian Paparazzi,
on Japanese motorcycles; treated by an American
doctor, using Brazilian medicines.

This was sent to me by an American, using Bill Gates's technology, and you're probably reading this on your computer, that uses Taiwanese chips, and a Korean monitor, assembled by Bangladeshi workers in a Singapore plant, transported by Indian lorry-drivers, hijacked by Indonesians, unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen, and trucked to you by Mexican illegals.

That, my friend, is Globalization

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation leans on the doorbell.

Opportunity dances with those who are already on the dance floor.

Today and Tomorrow

CHAUBAL

For past six months or more I was suffering from swelling of gums. Wearing the partial denture that I have was so painful that I used to wear it only at the time of lunch and dinner. Several times in a day I was massaging the gums with medicinal gel, or gargling with Listerine or applying Vicco Vajradanti to gums. But the trouble did not subside. My dentist told me that the remaining four teeth are also affected and because of them the infection enters the gums. The only solution is to remove them and have a full denture.

Following doctor’s advice I got the four teeth extracted. Now there are no teeth at the lower level. It will take about four weeks for healing. But now I can’t eat – can’t chew. I have to take only liquid or semi-liquid food which can be just swallowed. So I am having only soups, different types of kheer, shrikhand, ice cream, etc. Yes, I can eat pastries. They are so soft, and I don’t have to chew; just swallow them. After four weeks I shall get the denture. It may require a few days more to get it adjusted, but then I shall be able to eat anything that I please.

We have to sacrifice our today to have a better tomorrow.

But are we not doing it since childhood? We sacrifice our playful life when we start attending school. We sacrifice income thru job when we join the college or University to have higher education. We sacrifice entertainment when we burn midnight oil to prepare for the University examinations. Innumerable examples can be given from the later life also.

Beauty, Wealth and Fame

CHAUBAL

(1) Brad Pitt. Hollywood actor. handsome, wealthy and famous, says:

The three terrible karmas are beauty, wealth and fame. They are the things that stop you from finding true happiness.

(2) Jayadvaita Swami writes:

Kamini, Kanchan, Kirti - beauty, wealth and fame - Krishna had these and more. He also had strength, knowledge and renunciation. With this winning combination, no amount of material opulence alone can attract Him.

(3) Buddhist scriptures:

The Buddha knew and learned the wisdom when he renunciated worldly pleasures. According to him beauty, wealth and fame can lead to endless suffering. By overcoming them, you can steer your life towards love, wisdom and compassion.

A thought for today

We are all born with an infinite number of different qualities or energies within us. One of the most important tasks in our life is to discover and develop as many of these energies as possible, so that we can be well-rounded, and experience the full range of our potential.
