Here is the mantra given by A. Cornelius Celsus, the medical encyclopaedist, for a long, peaceful, enjoyable and satisfying retired life.
Live in rooms full of light.
Avoid heavy food.
Be moderate in the drinking of wine.
Take massage, baths, exercise and gymnastics.
Fight insomnia with gentle rocking or the sound of running water.
Change surroundings and take long journeys.
Strictly avoid frightening ideas.
Indulge in cheerful conversation and amusements.
Listen to music.
To this list I may add the following:
Read books (fiction, nonfiction or poetry) of your liking.
Learn playing some (musical) instrument and play the same.
Chat with friends on phone/mobile. (Cheerful conversation)
Amusement:
Invite friends and have parties.
Play solitary games like Solitaire, Freecell, Sudoku.
Play computer games.
Play chess with a friend or with your grandson or with computer.
Do any of such activities which delight you.
